History and origin
Among the known species of the genus Panax L, Vietnam has 3 naturally occurring species and one cultivated species.1 In the beginning, this species was only considered a wild tuber that the Xe Dang ethnic group used to treat diseases or make tonics to increase health when going to the forest.2
Until 1985, Vietnamese ginseng was announced as a completely new species in the scientific community. Currently, the species is mainly discovered in the Ngoc Linh mountain area of the two provinces of Quang Nam and Kon Tum, the name Ngoc Linh ginseng may have originated from this. To develop, researchers are experimenting with propagating this species to plant in other areas such as Sapa, Da Lat, etc.1
